Energy drinks
Energy drinks
Energy drinks are non-alcoholic functional beverages with a stimulating effect and unique combinations of characterizing ingredients including caffeine, taurine, vitamins and other substances with a nutritional or physiological effect. Energy drinks can also contain further ingredients such as glucuronolactone, flavourings, colourings and other additives. They are a relatively new beverage category and are increasing in popularity. Energy drinks are available in various formulas and are offered in a wide range of flavours both in sugar and sugar-free variants so that consumers can choose the flavour that suits them best.
Sports and performance drinks
Sports and performance drinks are specifically designed to provide performance benefits during any type of exercise or competition. In order to reach optimal performance, it is necessary to be hydrated and adequately fuelled. Sports and performance drinks, along with other ingredients, usually have carbohydrates, which provide a fuel source for muscles and the brain. Sodium and potassium electrolytes encourage fluid intake by driving the thirst mechanism.
Sports and performance beverages are useful to drink before, during and after exercise. They allow longer and more effective performance in training. During the recovery process such drinks help to replace the fluids and electrolytes lost in sweat.
Ready-to-drink (RTD) teas
Increased health concerns, especially when it comes to sweetened beverages, has pushed the drinks industry to provide innovations for consumers’ constantly changing tastes. Since tea is the second most highly-consumed beverage after water globally, the industry decided to offer tea products in a convenient form.
Ready-to-drink tea is usually made of natural ingredients and real tea leaves, which itself has various health benefits. Together with the vitamins and minerals naturally found in tea leaves, RTD tea has a refreshing taste, which allows the consumer to save time and expand their experience of the inexhaustible tea world.
Enhanced fruit drinks
Fruits are known for their excellent antioxidant properties, therapeutic value and nutrient enrichment. The beverage industry has used the benefits coming from fruits and created great-tasting enhanced fruit drinks.
Enhanced fruit drinks are nearly the same as regular juices but contain an exclusive fruit combination specially designed to give certain expected health benefits. In addition, enhanced fruit drinks usually contain extra antioxidants, B-vitamins, fibre or Omega-3, which can be received just by drinking a refreshing and tasty beverage. Though enhanced fruit drinks are not a substitute for real fruits, they are undoubtedly helpful in improving the diet of consumers.
Soy beverages
Soy is one of the oldest and best researched foods which is used in many industries as a beneficial, high quality ingredient. However, the beverage industry only discovered it in the 1970s when soy milk was introduced to the market as an alternative to traditional cow’s milk.
Soy beverages are made from soybeans which contain proteins, carbohydrates and fibre. In addition, such drinks are lactose free, low in saturated fat and contain no cholesterol. For these reasons soy beverages are becoming more and more popular all around the globe. People choose them because of the health benefits, as a dairy alternative or simply for the taste.
Enhanced water
Healthy, rich in vitamins and minerals, good-tasting, low-calorie beverages are in high demand by consumers. Hence, the industry has created a beverage containing water, health-enhancing ingredients, such as extracts, vitamins, minerals or other constituents that have a functional effect, and various flavours. It all makes enhanced water a good-tasting thirst quencher, at the same adding value to one’s healthy and low-calorie nutrition.
